Join the Active Travel Special Interest Group

At the 2022 Annual General Meeting, ARNM passed a resolution to develop a special interest group focusing on active travel. We are seeking nurses around Manitoba to participate in this group. The group’s goal is to influence policy creation to support built environments that allow for safe active travel routes between and within Manitoba’s communities.

Currently, a large proportion of Canadian adults are at increased risk for poor health outcomes as the majority (82.5%) do not meet physical activity guidelines and are sedentary for much of the day. Only 40% of children and youth aged 5 to 17, meet the recommended targets for physical activity. Policy and programs supporting physical activity are important as physical inactivity is the fourth leading cause of death worldwide
