As ARNM celebrates six years of existence, I reflect on the last year with pride and amazement.
Among our accomplishments this year, we have:
- Heard from our members about their key issues and concerns and reported back on these to nurses, nursing organizations, politicians, and the public
- Held quarterly discussions with other nursing groups in Manitoba, including all 3 Colleges and the Manitoba Nurses Union
- Met with multiple politicians from all parties to discuss the important and varied roles nurses play in health care in our province
- Advocated for nursing retention initiatives, including supporting the mental health of nurses and increasing nursing involvement in decision making
- Participated in provincial and national work to streamline opportunities for Internationally Educated Nurses to obtain licensure in Manitoba
- Hosted over 40 Talk Tuesdays which are available online for members to view to meet their licensing competency requirements
- Completed over 40 media interviews on nursing issues
- Supported almost 10,000 members during renewal
- Moved to being a fully virtual organization
- Met with other health professional associations to deal with matters of common interest
- Provided more than 20 presentations to students in all Manitoba undergraduate nursing programs
- Welcomed three new staff members and are now a team of four
- Had over 100 nurses volunteer over 1000 hours of time to support their profession
- Held our membership fees the same
- Renewed 90% of our members
During the next year, we will:
- Be in frequent touch with members to communicate what is happening, and to solicit your input and ideas
- Begin implementing our strategic plan for the next three years (more details next month)
- Use our policy platform to advocate for nursing, especially with a provincial election coming
- Review our operations to try to improve the ratio of costs/benefits for members
- Host an in-person and online Awards of Excellence and Annual General Meeting during National Nursing Week
I'd like to thank you all for your participation, feedback and support and I look forward to continuing our work in 2023.
-Joyce Kristjansson, Executive Director, ARNM
