Advocating for Nurses: ARNM’s Key Recommendations for Budget 2025
Manitoba’s health-care system is struggling with high burnout rates, staffing shortages, and job dissatisfaction, making it harder for Manitobans to access care. While the provincial government has taken steps to rebuild trust with health-care workers, more action is needed.
As part of our advocacy efforts, the Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) has put forward three key recommendations to support nurses and improve health care in the province:
- Increase student loans for nursing students to account for limited job opportunities due to accelerated program timelines.
- Create a grant to help nurses cover costs as they move from education to employment.
- Expand the scope of practice for Registered Nurse (Authorized Prescriber) to allow independent diabetes management.
We encourage our members to review the full document and participate in the provincial government’s Budget 2025 public engagement process. Through telephone town halls, in-person meetings, and surveys, Manitobans can share their priorities for the next budget. Make sure nurses’ voices are heard by completing the survey or attending a town hall.
Responses and submissions will be accepted until February 21, 2025.
