ARNM congratulates Carla Compton, RN, on new Cabinet role

Premier Wab Kinew announced a cabinet shuffle Monday that includes new ministerial responsibilities focused on accessibility and first responders. Carla, the MLA for Tuxedo and a registered nurse, has been appointed Minister responsible for Accessibility, a portfolio previously held within the Families department.

In her new role, Carla will be responsible for work related to accessibility and supports for Manitobans living with disabilities, their families and caregivers. One of her initial priorities will be reviewing the final report of the Integrated Adult Services Pilot Project, which includes 13 recommendations for improving Manitoba’s disability services.

“Nurses bring a unique perspective to leadership — one grounded in listening, advocacy and a deep understanding of the people and communities we serve,” says Pamela Scheveck, RN, M Ed, ARNM Executive Director. “We’re proud to see one of our members bringing their nursing experience and perspective to the Manitoba cabinet, and we congratulate Carla on this important new role.”

Carla is a longtime ARNM member and former hemodialysis nurse. She also joined us at ARNM Day last week for a conversation about partnership and connection across the nursing profession.
