ARNM President Reflects on Throne Speech and Calls for Continued Partnership in Advancing Healthcare

The Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) is highlighting the important role nurses play in strengthening Manitoba’s health-care system, following the throne speech delivered at the opening of the third session of the Forty-Third Legislature.

In a letter to members, ARNM President Jacob Ahiaegbe reflected on the progress outlined in the speech - particularly commitments related to safety, workload, and nursing recruitment and retention. He notes these priorities mirror the concerns nurses experience every day and the advocacy efforts ARNM has championed on behalf of the profession.

Ahiaegbe emphasized that improvements in these areas are the direct result of collaboration and strong partnerships across the health-care system. “The progress in these areas demonstrates the effectiveness of our collective advocacy efforts and evidence that nurses are bringing innovation to Manitoba’s health-care system,” he writes. He also underscored that meaningful change is only possible when nurses, government, and key stakeholders work together toward shared solutions.

While recognizing the progress made, Ahiaegbe said the throne speech serves as a renewed call to action. The ongoing challenges in health care require sustained advocacy, evidence-based decision-making, and a continued focus on supporting the nurses who deliver compassionate care at the bedside every day.

“Our role as nurses is vital to shaping Manitoba's health care future,” he noted, thanking ARNM members for their continued commitment. “The road ahead is long and requires us to work with courage, passion, and in partnerships.”

As Manitoba’s health-care system continues to evolve, ARNM remains dedicated to championing the needs of nurses and advocating for safe, effective, and sustainable care for all Manitobans.
