Message from the President: National Nursing Week 2026
As we mark National Nursing Week 2026, ARNM President Jacob Ahiaegbe, RN, MBA, reflects on the progress of Manitoba’s health system and the essential role nurses continue to play in shaping its future.
This year’s theme, The Power of Nurses to Transform Health, recognizes the significant impact nurses have on individuals, families, and communities across the province. From promoting health and preventing illness to improving patient outcomes, nurses remain at the centre of a strong and responsive health system.
In his message, the President also acknowledges the contributions of both retired nurses who have helped build the profession and nursing students who represent its future.
While celebrating achievements, the message also recognizes the ongoing challenges facing health care systems in Manitoba and across Canada. It highlights the importance of nursing leadership in addressing system pressures, advocating for equitable access to care, and ensuring that health care is recognized as a fundamental human right.
The role of nurses in shaping how new technologies, including artificial intelligence, are integrated into care delivery is also emphasized - ensuring innovation supports patients and strengthens care rather than replacing clinical judgment and human connection.
As National Nursing Week is recognized across the country, the message calls on policymakers to continue investing in nursing, supporting nursing leadership, and strengthening the future of health care for all Manitobans.
